Who Owns Quality?
Many quickly respond by saying that the SQE / QA / Testing organization own the quality of software. But quality should be owned by the entire company / organization. Each individual owns instilling quality into everything they do (at least in theory).
Who’s opinion counts?
Like beauty, quality is in the eye of the beholder. For software, there are several beholders to consider perception:
- End User
- Customer
- Buyer
- Developer
- Tester
- Maintainer
Each one will have different needs and perception of what is important in to them in terms of quality. Based on your business needs, you can prioritize by beholder, or set up criteria / standards that must be met.
Bottom line, EVERYONE in the business owns the quality. SQE is there to help access and measure the level of quality.
